Top 10 – 2013
“Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you the finest burgers Melbourne has on offer. Now hit NEXT and let the mouthwatering begin.”

“One of the best first bites we’ve ever had in a burger. Everything is in perfect proportion, resulting in a delicious bite each and every time.”

“With double cheese and bacon, this salty burger is fast-food done slow, done awesome.”

“Every bite into this burger is another step in to burger heaven. It’s hard to fault this burger at all. So soft, balanced and delicious.”

“The Raph burger has hall of fame status in our eyes. Consistently in our Top 10, its signature creaminess makes for an unforgettable burger.”

“When you’re in the mood for a little extra class to your burger, you can’t go past Neil Perry’s meticulous creation. Worth every penny!”

“Umami-mia! This flavour packed Wagyu & Angus burger is one of the most unique in Melbourne. Such beefiness!”

“This crumbly, double-smash pattie burger is the kind of thing that legends are made of. This has to be one of Melbourne’s best kept secrets.”

“The burger’s individual elements were all great but when together they were a work of art. The burger was peppery, hearty, creamy and all together special.”

“From its creaminess to its amazing pattie, this is a bang-on awesome burger with just enough of everything there to make you think about ordering another one.”

“2013 threw a world of terrific burgers at us. None better than this beauty. Congratulations to the guys at Merrywell for taking it out again! The Merrywell burger has everything a burger should – truly outstanding.”

Thank you Burger Adventure!!!

I totally though Mr burger would have made it 🙁

rebecca ( January 28, 2014 at 13:18 )

Mr Burger have gone into mass production mode and have since lost their touch.

GS ( January 28, 2014 at 13:26 )

@GS Your face has lost it’s touch

I like mustard ( January 28, 2014 at 13:30 )

Some big names there, good list well done

jackson ( January 28, 2014 at 13:34 )

Mr Burger is just not great. wish it was as they are near where I live often but they are jut a bit meh.

Mandy ( January 28, 2014 at 13:39 )

I agree the Fat Bob’s burger is great but the only reason you’d think about ordering another one is because it’s so small, especially for how much it costs.

Robbie ( January 28, 2014 at 13:44 )

The Honey Bar in South Melbourne does the best burger in Melbourne. If you haven’t been I strongly recommend. I work in the same street as Andrew’s but prefer Honey for burger and chips any day

Heath ( January 28, 2014 at 14:08 )

How MeatMother and Huxtaburger missed out, I don’t know.
Rockwell is bomb though!

Shaun ( January 28, 2014 at 14:32 )

no huxtaburger ??? lol get yourself an educate

dick ( January 28, 2014 at 15:50 )

Love Fat Bobs!! It is the full package. Amazing burgers, friendly competent staff and great atmosphere.
We eat here every-time we are in Melbourne…..the only time we go out for a burger.

Leisa ( January 28, 2014 at 15:50 )

Another great list again guys. Well done and keep up the good work.

Aaron ( January 28, 2014 at 16:11 )

The Merrywell is terribly sloppy.

Loses points in my book for that.

Kiz ( January 28, 2014 at 16:21 )

Laruie D’s is phenomenal. They do the whole ‘good fast food’ style stuff. They opened for a while then were closed during renovations there. A mate of mine and I go there a lot even though it’s a hike for me. I tell them CONSTANTLY that they need to open a CBD store for all the people doing lunch, they would KILL IT.

The deal is that the place is a pilot franchise by the same people who did Salsas apparently. They need to expand, fast. They are really that friggin good.

Ryan Allen ( January 28, 2014 at 16:54 )

Fat bobs burgers taste great , but to small for price then u have to buy fries sepperate . To dear$$$$$.

Dave ( January 28, 2014 at 17:33 )

Those calling for Huxtaburger need to check themselves….you need a straw to finish their burgers. The bottom bun gets liquefied its impossible to eat.

Frank ( January 28, 2014 at 18:58 )

Go to Huxtaburger and then re-evaluate.

Ariana ( January 28, 2014 at 19:05 )

How come the kfc zinger pie isnt on there ?

Julia canavan ( January 28, 2014 at 21:07 )

Huxtaburger is way overrated and not an adventure.

B-Fan ( January 28, 2014 at 23:54 )

Huxtaburger has become the new catch-cry for those that used to squawk about Danny’s and (to a lesser extent) Andrew’s.
These guys have had Huxta, they’ve had them all, and this is their opinion of what the Top 10 in Melbourne are.
I am really excited by this years list guys, there are four burgers in there that I’m still yet to try and a few first timers, great stuff!

Daryl ( January 29, 2014 at 10:19 )

You need to get over to the B.East. I have the raph burger quite often and they definitely manage to upstage that.

Andrew ( January 29, 2014 at 14:49 )

Is there anywhere that does those steamed burgers I’ve seen on the food channel on foxtel?

Matt ( January 29, 2014 at 18:37 )

Thanks for introducing me to the Tuck Shop! Buns as fluffy as cloud nine, right balance of liquids (juice vs sauce), I never wanted it to end.

Anonymous ( January 29, 2014 at 20:22 )

Great List, good to see some newer top 10 entries. Laurie Dee’s is ripper….they are pretty stoked about being on the top 10.

Lounge or Gloria Swanston is absolutely brutal……love that burger

thanks again BA

piky0032 ( January 31, 2014 at 10:13 )

It’s bout time you fools wised up to how completely shithouse Huxtaburger is.

Anonymous ( February 1, 2014 at 12:13 )

When Australians describe a burger as “creamy,” do they mean the same thing as “juicy” in American?

BillyBob ( February 2, 2014 at 05:13 )

I thought Brother burger would have made the list. It may not be to much of adventure but I do believe they are in the top 10. Great list and I look forward to trying 4 new places I didn’t know about. Cheers

matte mo ( February 3, 2014 at 17:40 )

Great list again guys.

Anonymous ( February 3, 2014 at 20:49 )

How can Brother Burger in Brunswick Street not make this list? There are some good burgers here sure, but Brother Burger has to make the top few.

Joel ( February 3, 2014 at 21:42 )

Thanks guys – for years you have made burger cravings a fully justified and rewarding treat compared to the vast majority out there that don’t pass muster.

A very interesting top 10 this year but one I fully agree with for those I’ve tried with a few exceptions, as there will always be.

Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see your 2014 adventures.

Niels ( February 4, 2014 at 00:22 )

Where’s Andrew’s Burgers, Bridport Street Albert Park…?!?

Marty ( February 4, 2014 at 12:56 )

Andrew’s Burgers???????

Rendog ( February 6, 2014 at 16:52 )

Spotted mallard is unreal. New favourite.

Anonymous ( February 8, 2014 at 20:57 )

Why isn’t Parlour Diner in Windsor on this list? Still haven’t tried any burger better than theirs, in Melbourne OR London…

Spam ( February 13, 2014 at 10:02 )

Great List… Was hanging for it to come out, had already gone through the 2012 list!! Will be trying Spotted Mallard tonight! Yeeww

Also you peeps complaining about Huxtaburger not being on the list are crazy, that burger sux ass!! didn’t deserve its 2012 spot!!

Sarah ( February 13, 2014 at 11:23 )

Laurie dees is the most exciting thing to happen in the burger scene. Just brilliant, shame about the location. Disagree with fat bobs, nice decor but underwhelming burger.

MV ( February 17, 2014 at 07:44 )

Oscar Cooper is my favourite at the moment. Located in Prahran

AT ( February 18, 2014 at 17:13 )

I’m so glad to see that Huxtaburger, Danny’s and Andrew’s are not on the list. So overrated and stuck in the past; I’d almost prefer Maccas. They’ve been lagging behind for years and have been resting on their laurels. Seems like they don’t care as long as they keep turning over the revenue. You philistines who sing the praises of these joints need to get out more and try some of the places on this list, then you will understand why the aforementioned didn’t make it. C’mon, don’t be cliche, live a little. We’re always going to disagree on these things but for the most part, I agree with this list. That’s what it’s about; promoting discussion and debate. Well done. ( I didn’t really mean the comment about Maccas )

Greasy Joe. ( February 21, 2014 at 23:31 )

Great list and tend to agree with some of the comments regarding Huxtaburger. They’re not my favourite, but they do make a tasty burger, which are always consistent.

I’ve been to Merrywell twice based on your reviews and I’ve had the worst possible service every time and the food, quite frankly doesn’t even touch Rockwell or Fat Bob’s.

It’s all so subjective and a tough gig to do a list that’ll please everyone, but I still love your blog. Keep up the good work.

Lucho ( February 22, 2014 at 22:56 )

Definitely a few new burgers to try here, very intrigued to get along to NSHRY.
Thanks for all your great write-ups guys!
1 thing – I find Beatbox kitchen to be quite overrated, & expensive. Each to their own though, & a big plus for the exclusions of Huxtaburger & Andrews =)

Pat ( February 26, 2014 at 17:30 )

Laurie Dee’s burgers are great. I live nearby and I have to ration myself otherwise I would be there every day. The patties are sensational, just so tasty.
I actually eat them with a knife and fork (sacrilege) as they tend to fall apart but when the taste is to “die for” who cares?

Angelo ( March 4, 2014 at 17:31 )

I’m glad to see Spotted Mallard make the list. Great venue. Great beers. And the beef-bacon burger is amazing.

I am a little disappointed to see Beatbox down in 7th, because in my opinion it is consistently the best burger in Melbourne.

Finally had my first Huxtaburger a few weeks ago and it was a major disappointment. The brioche bun deflated upon touch into a thin soggy mess.

As for B.East – it’s still S.hit. O.Verrated.

DC ( March 6, 2014 at 00:04 )

Also, that Rockwell & Sons’ burger is just heaven.

DC ( March 6, 2014 at 00:06 )

No Burger Monster? Are You Crazy?!

Luke ( March 26, 2014 at 13:16 )

I really like your website and use it regularly, I agree with nearly everything you review. But the fact that you have given number 1 to Merrywell 2 years running, makes me wonder if you are being paid off by them. There are 50 better burgers than that in Melbourne. Try 1090 Burger, that is good

Adam ( April 6, 2014 at 11:00 )

Rockwell is the best

Adam ( April 6, 2014 at 11:01 )

Finally got round to hitting up Merrywell after having it on my radar for a long time, and the number one position here… and was underwhelmed. Maybe a little saddened, too, as parts of it showed promise. Patty was cooked to a consistent bland dryness, without a hint of pink or juiciness. Cheese and sauces unevenly distributed such that you’d get an overt hit on one bite, and just straight meat & bun on another.
The bun was pretty tasty, though.
My friend and I chewed our way through absently in silence. Talking afterward, it turned out we were both thinking the same thing: “I wish I was eating at Rockwell”

Joseph ( April 15, 2014 at 23:57 )

Not sure how Laurie Dee’s made the top 10.. I have eaten there a few times and each time the burger is just a slopfest ball of oil that you cant eat..

Mr burger and Huxtaburger are heaps better! Looking forward to trying the merrywell, looks awesome!

This year’s list i think will have Royale Bros at Number 1!

Chris ( June 5, 2014 at 14:16 )

Perkup Burger Collins St in the CBD – the bacon burger – AMAZING

Anonymous ( July 3, 2014 at 19:59 )

Perk up is a disgrace

Taurean ( July 6, 2014 at 11:58 )

Fat Bobs was brilliant but agree about the size/price. Happy hour at Merrywell is good value but I don’t do soggy bottoms – too messy to be my No1. Anyone tried a South Mel Trader? The Burger House in Eltham isn’t too bad but maybe not Top 10. Freshly ground medium-rare patties are a must for me.

Anthony ( July 11, 2014 at 15:42 )

This is the tightest top 10 so far.

If I could create a top 15 I would remove tuckshop and add to the mix: Kodiak club, bobo’s, Le bon ton, palour diner, zombie, three crowns.

Wad up.

Nicky B ( July 22, 2014 at 18:31 )

Mamas Boy in St Kilda, the best burger and chips in Australia

James ( November 28, 2014 at 09:51 )
